Frequently
Asked Questions
How do I access my control
panel?
You can login to your Plesk control panel at
https://yoursite.com:8443 where "yoursite.com" is your own
domain name.
Why did I get locked out of the Plesk control panel?
Chances are you did not log out properly by not clicking the log out
button. You will just have to wait 30 minutes for the locking
mechanism to release and then you may log back in.
Why can't I see my control panel?
Most likely you are behind a firewall or proxy that does not allow
for you to access port 8443 through SSL. You will need to
reconfigure your firewall or proxy to allow you to access this port
to gain access to Plesk.
How do I add POP accounts to my plan?
Login to Plesk and enter the domain you want to manage. Click the
MAIL button and add a username. After it is created, highlight the
POP mailbox option and enter a password.
What settings do I use for my email program?
The three crucial parts to setting up email are the username,
password and mail servers. For the username and password, simply
copy what you have created in Plesk to your mail program (Outlook,
Eudora, etc). Finally, make sure your incoming is set to
mail.yourwebsite.com & outgoing mail
server is smtp.yourisp.com (example if your isp is ntlworld.com your
outgoing mail server would be smtp.ntlworld.com).
Where do I access IMP webmail?
Type http://webmail.yoursite.com where "yoursite" is your
domain name.
I need help finding the correct
paths can you help?
Yes, download this file Servercheck.zip
, run Winzip and extract the cgi file inside, now upload this to
your cgi-bin and change the permissions to 755. To call the file
enter http://www.yoursite.com/cgi-bin/servercheck.cgi , you should
now see a full report of all paths and modules installed on our
servers.
What is the correct path to Perl?
/usr/bin/perl
What is the correct path to sendmail?
/usr/sbin/sendmail
Can I have CGI outside of the bin?
No, please use the CGI-BIN provided.
What is the full path to my cgi-bin?
Server1:- /home/httpd/vhosts/yoursite.com/cgi-bin
Server2:- /home/yourdomain/public_html/cgi-bin (note:- when entering
your domain name do not use the .com .org .co.uk etc, ie
/home/easy123hosting/public_html/cgi-bin)
I can't get my CGI to work when permissioned at 777?
The highest permissions Plesk will allow is 755. Chmod your files to
755 and they should work fine.
What do I do to fix an internal server error with my CGI scripts?
There are multiple reasons for a 501 error within your CGI bin.
First make sure you are permissioned properly, normally 755 will
work. Next add a - w after your perl location, this sometimes helps
eliminating premature end of script header errors. You may also try
to run your program in the httpdocs folder instead of the Cgi-bin.
And as a last suggestion, reload your script in the proper ASCII
mode. Sometimes improper loading or editing of the script will
corrupt it and force you to start from scratch.
How do I FTP into my account?
First you must obtain an FTP program such as Cute FTP or WS_FTP.
Once you have an FTP program, type in "yourdomain.com" as
the host address. Supply your username and password in the according
fields. Click connect.
Which folder do I FTP my web pages to?
You should place all of your web documents in the httpdocs
directory.
Is it possible to create folders in the root directory?
No, Plesk does not allow users to create folders in the root for
security purposes.
Why do I keep getting errors when trying to publish with
FrontPage?
The most common problem is not using the full url when uploading
your site. Make sure you use the entire http://www.domain.com in the
address you are attempting to publish to
How do I get my ASP to work?
Place all ASP pages in the httpdocs folder and make sure Apache ASP
is turned OFF in your hosting configuration. If Apache ASP is ON,
Chili!Soft ASP will not function properly.
Why isn't my SSI working?
In order for SSI to be executed, you must rename all of your web
pages to .shtml rather than .htm or .html. This solves the majority
of SSI errors.
What are the nameservers (DNS) for your servers?
Server1:- NS1.UKSERVERS4U.COM
Server1:- NS2.UKSERVERS4U.COM
Server2:- NS1.NTWMB.COM
Server2:- NS2.NTWMB.COM
How long does it take for my DNS changes to update world wide?
Normally you can expect to see your web site DNS to change within 24
hours once you have made the modifications at your registrar.
However, we have seen it take up to 7 days in some cases where
registrars and ISPs are a little slower.
I've made my DNS changes and still see "placeholder for
..."?
You are still seeing the default index.html page set up when you
ordered your hosting plan through us. Make sure after you upload
your web site to delete that old index.html page, then your site
should resolve correctly.
Where are my statistics?
Click the report button after logging into Plesk and hit the
Webalizer option. This will open a new window to Webalizer with all
your statistics for that domain.
Why am I receiving an email stating I am over my quotas?
If you have exceeded your disk or bandwidth quotas, Plesk will email
you daily with the report to show you how much over you are. If you
are only over by bandwidth, you will be billed accordingly at the
end of the month for the extra traffic you used. If you exceed your
disk quota, you will be notified by Your Web Host and given the
choice to reduce the size of your site or upgrade to the next
available plan. If you are a Re Seller you can Log into your control
panel and increase the client limits of bandwidth or disc space
accordingly.
How do I customize my error pages?
Download the error page you want to customize from your /error_docs
folder. Edit the page to your liking, but do not rename it. Then,
reload the page via FTP into the same /error_docs folder.
